Benin 2007 Update

January 2007

This project has been in effect for over one year now, with 32 wells already drilled and 31,000 peoples’ lives being transformed from drinking fresh, clean water. Our water well drilling schedule is expanding as we have delivered a second well drilling rig, which is undergoing the final mechanical adjustments before commencing work. Its use will mean that our capacity for drilling will be doubled, bring hope, health, and a better future twice as quickly, for twice as many suffering people.

November 2007

In just 8 months, we have drilled another 21 wells, bringing a total of 56 wells drilled, and changing 56,000 lives. Our second well drilling rig is now in action and has just finished drilling its first water well. This second rig effectively doubles our well-drilling capacity, enabling twice as many people to receive pure, fresh water in half the waiting time!

Here’s an account of hope, shared with us by our in-country staff:

Hahame is a village about 100 km from the capital, Cotonou. It is located not far from a lake whose water is salty. Any well drilled in the area had never accessed clean water, making people sick, or yielded salty water, which was difficult to drink and very bad for washing clothes. When the GAiN drilling team went to Hahame to drill a well, the people were sure that the water quality wouldn’t be good. They were surprised to find that the well water was abundant, clean & sweet. It was unbelievable but true!”
