The Eziama Community located in Imo State, Nigeria is a rural area of 23 villages with over 80,000 people. The area is greatly lacking in basic health care facilities or programs. Over the past five years a small but outstanding hospital complex has been constructed in the middle of Eziama community.

In May of 2003, field staff along with an experienced hospital administrator traveled to Nigeria to assess how GAiN Canada could assist in equipping, staffing and starting up services at Grace Hospital.

A phased opening of the Hospital began in January 2004 providing Outpatient Services. Phase Two will involve setting up Maternity and Surgical wards and Diagnostic services such as lab and X-Ray.

The operation of Grace Hospital , however, is only one component of a Comprehensive Community Health Initiative which will include Community Health Education, Public Health Programs at the village level and District-wide Immunization Programs.
