Togo Drilling Team
GAiN’s experience with drilling water wells in Benin, Sudan and Tanzania has opened doors to provide disease-free water in another African country – Togo. In December 2009, GAiN sent the first well drilling rig to Togo. While the rig was en-route, the Togo drilling team of four was sent to train with the Benin drilling team for two months. Today, they are now ready and eager to start drilling.
Strategy for Life
GAiN has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Togo to carry out a water well drilling project. The government is providing a 5-ton truck and a 4×4 pickup to transport supplies and the well drilling crew from village to village. In turn, GAiN has committed to fund the drilling of the water wells as well as provide the management and the Togo drilling crew for the project.
The drilling team is currently meeting with the local village chiefs and conducting assessments to determine which villages need a well and then ensure the best locations for each one.
As is the case in all countries where GAiN has water well drilling projects, once clean water is provided, the people are able to regain their health. Better health results in more productive time in the fields. The increased water supply also provides water for drip irrigation, resulting in increased field production yields. The surplus crop can be sold to local markets providing much needed income to the village, eventually leading to financial independence. The cycle of sickness, suffering and death that contaminated drinking water has caused for generations will be broken! Women and children will no longer be required to spend hours each day searching for and carrying water over extremely long distances. UN studies have found that the closer girls live to a water source, the more often they attend school.
As part of our desire to help people holistically, GAiN will also bring ALERT medical personnel on trips to the villages to offer basic medical treatment to people.

Our current goal is to drill ten water wells by the end of 2010 and, in turn, bring hope, health, and a better future to approximately 10,000 people in Togo. Will you partner with us to rejuvenate lives and demonstrate God’s love to the needy people of Togo?
