Be Part of Rebuilding Haiti
When the earthquake struck in Haiti on January 12th, 2010 the lives of millions were changed forever, and GAiN knew we needed to act quickly. Due to our history in providing emergency provisions in response to recent Hurricane disasters in Haiti and through our local partner, Esperandieu Pierre, and his network, we were able to respond immediately and begin bringing hope to Haiti. Since the quake, GAiN has been meeting immediate physical needs through food, water and basic hygiene necessities by:
• setting up medical clinics and performing triage services
• distributing emergency relief packages, including 35 pallets of baby food
• deploying containers of emergency response supplies
• providing trauma counseling for survivors
• training pastors and community leaders to continue meeting the emotional and spiritual needs of the people
• so far, sources say, 222,517 people died
• over 1.2 million are in need of emergency shelter
• at least 2 million require food assistance
• approximately 600,000 have left Port-au-Prince for outlying areas
• most urgent priorities include assistance with shelter and sanitation and identification of suitable land for construction of transitional shelter
In response to this great devastation, we must do more than emergency response; we must look at the next phase, a long-term plan. “Our main objective is to help transform chosen communities; ideally from IDP camps without hope into caring and loving communities where people have a house and a means to make a living, where they have caring neighbors and a life in dignity.” Raphael Funk – GAiN Germany For the next 12 months, our plan is to:
• supply temporary camping tents for 3,600 people
• build permanent homes for 100 families
• provide 2 nourishing meals per day to 2,500 families for over 3 months, totaling 2.7 million meals
• supply water filters & training to 5,000 families
• train 3,000 people to come alongside others and work through the pain and fear they are experiencing
• treat 4,200 people through our medical clinics and triage
• ship 3 additional containers of food & supplies To help rebuild Haiti, we need an additional $1.15 million. With the rainy season already starting and flooding already occurring, this need becomes more urgent and critical. Through your generosity, GAiN will be able to continue to help the people of Haiti for months and years to come.
Would you consider giving to enable our local partners to bring hope to the people who are suffering in Haiti right now? Give today!
